Meet Millie Mitchel. She was born 5 weeks premature, a surprise to both her mom and dad Meg and Marc. The most surprising thing about Millie’s birth is her becoming an internet sensation at a really young age.
Millie was delivered complete, all with 10 fingers and toes, and a really thick jet black hair, unlike any other newborn you might have seen! Meg’s friends and family told her that the baby’s hair would soon fall out, which is regarded as a natural process among babies after birth, however this is not the case with Millie.
Her mommy shared:
“It’s grown longer and longer — it’s all the way down her back. I even have to blow dry it because if I leave it, it’s so thick, it takes ages to dry. I’ve been doing that since the day she was born.”
Now, at 11 months, Millie is frequently thought to be older than she is. An easy mistake to make, considering that she’s got more hair than the average 11-month-olds, combined! But that’s not the only mistake people make, said her mom:
“Everyone comments on how long and thick it is. People can’t believe it. I even got asked once if it was a wig and I said, ‘No, it’s her hair!”
For Millie, there is no wig yet, her locks are just perfectly normal, just a bit thicker than others. After she was born into this world, Millie was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus.
Hydrocephalus is a condition where there is a build up of fluids around the brain. Soon, Millie will be under surgery to remove the fluids found on her head. Of her operations, one included fitting a shunt on her brain to drain the fluids off her stomach.
Surprisingly, even though doctors were operating on her brain, they didn’t have to chop her special mane, entirely. The baby is now healthy and thriving and those bits the doctors had to shave for surgery have grown back, thick as ever.
Above all, Millie’s health is the most valuable thing, and her parents are so glad to have her as their ‘special’ baby.
Mom said she is very easy to remember:
“Nobody forgets her, If I go to the doctor I just say, ‘The baby with all the hair.’ It’s lovely that she’s a little bit different.”
