13 siblings from Ireland and the UK reunited for what seem like to be their very last time.
This is due to the fact that their combined age totaled to 1,073 which made them won a most coveted title in the Guinness Book of World Records! [mashshare]
They are: Sean (93), Maureen (92), Eileen (90), Peter (87), Mairead (86), Rose (85), Tony (83), Terry (81), Seamus (80), Brian (76), Kathleen (75), Colm (73) and Leo (72) – they officially won the Guinness World Record for oldest family in March this year, but gathered to celebrate on May 14 at their family home in Armagh, Northern Ireland.
The whole family originally totaled 18 that includes their parents – Peter and Ellen Donnelly, 1 sibling, Michael passed on some 42 years ago while aged 25 years old in a car accident. Oscar, on the other hand lost to a battle to cancer at age 64. Leo’s twin, Austin, passed away in 2015 on Christmas Day.
Ironically, he was the one who inadvertently set the Guinness title in motion, when he said at Maureen’s 90th birthday that:
“We must be the oldest family in the world, it was a fly-away remark, but it grew legs and we began making inquiries into registering for the Guinness World Record.”
It all started there, so they began searching for birth certificates that have been long stacked away. Some of the siblings are unable to find them and had to send for brand new ones, and the women who changed their names after being married had to get their marriage certificates.
All their efforts paid off in the end.
“We’re going to get in the book next year. When we started this thing, there was a determination to bring it all the way and it’s great now to have that title. It’s more important to us because it is in memory of Austin.”
Aside from the 13 siblings, the family also includes almost 200 grandchildren and other great grandchildren.
