UNBELIEVABLE: After She Recovers From Anesthesia, South African Woman Started Speaking Korean Fluently!

In Cape Town, South Africa, a YouTuber by the name of Lindie Botes has uploaded a video of herself waking up from a shot of anesthesia at a hospital. As soon as she opened her eyes, she spoke fluently in Korean!

In a related viral incident, an accident sends teen in a coma, when he awakes he started speaking fluent Spanish.

In the said video that has gone ‘viral’ in Korea, she was seen drowsy and appear to be speaking in a different language. She in fact spoke fluent Korean after she has awakened from anesthesia.

But, Linda says she has been studying Korean for over 9 years already. But when she is in the right mind, she has a hard time speaking fluent Korean.

Linda shared: “I cannot explain why, but for some reason each time I wake up from anesthesia, I speak Korean until I regain my consciousness completely.”

A Brain Institute neuroscientist, Dr. Pankaj Sah, thinks he might have an explanation about what happens in Linda’s case. He said the brain was made up of different circuits, which assist in language, breathing, speaking and thinking—similar to electronic circuits. According to him, what possibly happened was that the parts of the brain that retained Korean language were triggered when she woke up from anaesthesia.

She asked her friend questions such as “What time is it?” and she continued conversations in Korean. She also said she is in pain and swore in Korean. Botes said she has never lived in Korea before, though she has been studying Korean for over nine years now.

She had shared the footage as she thought it might have a significant meaning for linguistics.

The video has spread rapidly in Korea, with over 153,000 hits in just 10 days!

YouTube users wrote comments such as –

“This is unbelievable!”

“She must have studied Korean very hard.”

Korean local media reports also covered the reaction of Botes, making the video even more popular in the country.
